ARCHIVES

The Matta Archives are concerned with the preservation and promotion of Matta's artistic legacy. The archives were founded by Germana Ferrari Matta, who, from the end of the 1960s, organized passionately the artist's vast output with logical and chronological rigour to facilitate access, knowledge and dissemination. Thanks to Germana's tireless curatorial assiduity, the Matta Archives - kept in Paris until 2018 - are now housed at La Bandita, Tarquinia (Italy), in the care of Alisee Matta.

Known and loved throughout the world, the aim ever remains to preserve Matta's legacy by providing access to material essential to the enhancement and growing understanding of the artist's work. The Matta Archives hold a considerable collection of material to further research, touching every aspect of the artist's life and times: primary source papers, documents, and videos that testify to Matta's experiences, fields of interest, thought, techniques, approaches to process and production - his working life and signature with which he left his mark on the art of the 20th Century. These archives serve to certify the artist's works and support educational and cultural projects aimed at spreading, popularizing and illuminating Matta's thought and art.
