The exhibition at the Bank Austria Kunstforum Wien, curated by Ingried Brugger, presents Matta's artistic galaxies in seven rooms. The project is being realised in collaboration with the Matta Archives and the Galerie Gmurzynska.
The exhibition presents an interesting number of works spanning all decades, providing a comprehensive and rich picture of Matta's oeuvre.
From the psychological morphologies of the late 1930s to Coigitum, the large 10 x 4 metre painting from 1972, the whole exhibition transports the observer into Matta's universe, catapulting him into another dimension, also thanks to the exceptional arrangement of the 1960s canvases that reproduce the idea of the open cube, inviting a new observation of reality.
The exhibition offers the opportunity to explore Matta's vast oeuvre and also aims to emphasise the value of a free and visionary art that is not afraid to send a political message and challenge society.
